Trauma Nova Scotia was originally founded as the Nova Scotia Trauma Program in 1997 with a mandate to facilitate the provision of optimal trauma care through leadership in injury prevention and control, education, research, and the continuous development and improvement of the trauma system. Core functions of Trauma Nova Scotia include maintaining the Trauma Registry, professional education, and research. In 2020, Trauma Nova Scotia joined Nova Scotia Health to become the Nova Scotia Health Trauma Program.
